The Manor House at Staunton has recently been bought by a private individual who is again using it as a private dwelling. His dog was lazing in the back of his car whilst we were there and Eric, as usual, starting dreaming of having his own dog. If ever we were lucky enough to live in a location like Staunton, he would definitely have one.
We wandered past he house and down to the church, merely steps away and now managed by the National Trust. It's unusual as it is one of the few churches built during the rule of Oliver Cromwell and cost its builder his life. The whole setting is idyllic, sitting on a lake and really quiet.

We walked along by the lake and admired both the view and the architectural detail. As the day was both overcast and hazy the photos do not do the scene justice. It made me realise that I really needed some filters for my camera before we go on holiday.

There was also a selection of craft shops on the estate which we looked around quickly. Again it was the dog that caught Eric's attention. He was mesmerised by the dog's eyes, again the photo just doesn't give the same effect.
We then carried on to Breedon on the Hill, the nearest place to Lount with a church and which is absolutely beautiful, but by this time the rain was falling heavily and it was difficult to take any photos but we did manage a few of the church.
I hadn't expected to find anything out about my ancestors during this visit, and I didn't, but, it is a beautiful area and I did get a feel for what their lives would have been like.
